History



In 1924 Agostino Gemelli found at Catholic University of Milan the Laboratory of Psychology, "the youngest in Italy". The experimental research tradition subsequently increased by the Institute (then Department) of Psychology, founded by Padre Gemelli in 1958.

    

In 1987 the Department Header , prof. Giuseppe Girotti, allocated some spaces to be used for cognitive psychology experiments. In 1990 a room of the new Department building was dedicated to the "Laboratory of Cognitive Psychology".  

Afterwards the institution of the Faculty of Psychology, Laboratories were instituted by San Vittore street, such as Laboratory of Cognitive Psychology. In 2003, it was transferred in 15 Nirone street.
     

Research 

Today, Cognitive Psycology research areas are different, such as learning, creativity, analogical thinking, metacognition, mental imagery, cognitive processes and new technologies. As well as in Neuropsychology, we have contributions in the fields of synesthesia and physiognomy, metaphorical representation, subliminal and supraliminal stimulation, semantic and structural elaboration of language, emotion expression and language elaboration.
